Had a brilliant evening being entertained by the fabulous cast of Madagascar the musical this week (Darlington Hippodrome). We love coming to see amazing family shows here and this one was no exception. From the opening number Madagascar is fun for all ages and is packed with catchy tunes and bright coloured sets and humour. The main characters really kept the audience engaged throughout and the infectious ‘We like to move it’ number had everyone up on their feet!
Children will recognise all their favourites from the original movie by Dreamworks and the seamless transitions and clever puppetry ensures the audience are absorbed into the magic. The penguins were thoroughly entertaining and the accompanying cast enthusiastic and energetic.
The story follows your favourite ‘cracka lackin’ friends from the film as they escape from the New York zoo and find themselves meeting King Julien and exploring Madagascar! Melman the giraffe, Gloria the hippo, Marty the zebra and Alex the lion (Joseph Connor who made his debut on our night as Alex and was brilliant!) really helped engage the young crowd. Posi Morakinyo, Hannah Victoria and Connor Dyer played these fabulous leads perfectly. Kieran Mortell as King Julien was hilarious and made the audience screech with laughter throughout!
A dreary Autumnal midweek night was transformed as this lively, upbeat and colourful show had us captivated and singing and dancing along.
