‘Chill time’ and having the kids off school in the summer holidays do not usually belong in the same sentence do they….but I successfully managed to escape mother duties with a friend for 4 whole precious hours! Our choice of retreat was the beautiful Garage Spa part of the Morritt arms hotel in Barnard Castle, County Durham. My friend is a farmer’s wife and certainly was deserved of some time off being a ‘harvest time widow’ as she calls it. A chat in the bubbles and a few hours respite was just what the doctor ordered!
The stunning setting of the Garage spa makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a new relaxing world. The decor of the lounge when you walk in is amazing and its lovely to have a cup of tea and relax before you have your spa tour and get ready to be pampered. There are lots of products to try and purchase if you wish and we enjoyed browsing these.
After a lovely soak in all of the hot tubs ( aside from the cold splash one as i’m a wimp!) and a relax in the sauna and aromatherapy room and steam room we had built up an appetite and we were escorted from the spa building into the lovely dining room where we enjoyed a 3 course lunch. My choice was falafel for starter, scampi for main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert and the food was of the highest standard and beautifully presented.
