An amazing night at the Hippodrome Darlington to see Joseph and the Technicolour dreamcoat ( have been so excited for this one) Starring Jaymi Hensley ( of Union J fame) this dazzling production has lasted the test of time and every time I have seen it, a different Joseph brings a new perspective on a classic show full of favourite songs we know. The last time I saw this production was a few years back with Lee Mead in London. Jaymi proves that he can bring a new youthful vigour to the role and perform brilliantly alongside a spectacular cast. The show is actually 50 years old this year and so many amazing stars have tread the boards in the famous role. In the words of Jaymi himself, ‘The world at the moment is so depressing; I think everyone should come for a couple of hours of detachment from reality and have a fun uplifting time’. No truer words spoken, a Tuesday night was made very special and memories made with my 2 youngest children who have been learning the songs at school so knew most of the words! Special mentions go to Trina Hill whose vocal range was superb and performance outstanding, Andrew Geater as the Pharoah who had it all going on,Alex Hetherington as a youthful and enthusiastic Benjamin, Matt Jolly as Gad (brilliant mover!) and Amber Kennedy as the charismatic Mrs Potiphah. Gemma Pipe also deserves a mention for her beautiful moves in ‘Those Canaan days’ number which was fantastic. This show is a wonderful, feel good, joyous musical that will entertain audiences, i’m sure for many years to come. Joseph will be on at the Hippodrome from May 21st to May 25th so catch it while you can!
